Three basalt flows exposed in the quarry. The upper flow contains no mineralisation, the middle and low flows contain the mineralisation.

Located in Clifton Hill, a local government ward of the Melbourne suburb Collingwood.

"Quarrying operations at Clifton Hill, alongside Merri Creek date back to 1846 and possibly earlier. Small quarry operations (of around half an acre) were made available for leasing to the public from 1846. Theses leases were subsequently resumed by the Melbourne City Council for suppling material for road and building construction. This area was approximately ten acres in size. Later approximately three and and a half acres of this property was granted to the Collingwood Council in 1884 for quarrying purposes. These two ajoining quarries have been referred to as "Corporation Quarries" and "Metropolitan Quarries"." (Birch, 1989)
Remediation of the quarry was completed in 1983 and it is no longer visible.
