Høydalen (Høydalen seter), Tørdal, Drangedal, Telemark, Norway

(Høydalen, Tørdal)

The Høydalen locality consists of 2 separate amazonite pegmatite dykes, which is situated a few hundred meters apart. The pegmatites are hosted in a precambrian metamorphosed gabbroic rock. Both pegmatite dykes has been worked as 2 different quarries; the upper and lower quarries. Lepidolite was mined here in the period 1941-43. Occasional blasting during the years has revealed several mineral species. It is the type locality of tveitite-(Y). For a period the quarries were opened as a touristic collecting site with an entrance fee.

The quarries are now abandoned. Collecting at dumps is not allowed without permission from the landowner!
