Name:From Greek τυχή, "tyche", luck or chance, because the first and only one of the last ten crystals of a stock of about 5000 crystals of northupite being examined by Penfield and Jamieson were tychite, plus the prefix "FERRO-" from the Latin ferrum = iron, in allusion to the dominance of iron in the composition.
