Name:Named for Arthur Hubert Church (1834-1915), English chemist who described and analyzed the mineral.


The "Nd-analogue" of churchite-(Y).

However, according to the paper by Podporina et al. (1983), this mineral is only a Nd-rich variety of churchite-(Y). The Y content was not determined directly.

Walenta (1995) states in his description of churchite minerals from the Black Forest, Germany: "… Hier dürfte unter den Seltenen Erden Nd dominieren, was zur Bezeichnung Churchit-(Nd) führen würde."

No reliable quantitative chemical analyses of the above material available. Reinvestigation/reinterpreation highly desirable.

Recently, an unambiguous confirmation of Nd-dominant churchite was reported from Italy (Bersani et al., 2011).
