Description
A superb, intense color USA Hiddenite, from the collection of Warren Johannson which he obtained in trade from Harvard in in 1934. Unlike the typical slender crystals, this is a wide and stout example, a complete floater with the top quality brilliant "Emerald" green color, weighing 17.7 ct. Complete all around, complexly etched and doubly terminated, this is a killer thumbnail that is hard to fully appreciate in photos. The Alexander County NC Hiddenites are of course the "real" thing, unlike green Spodumene from Pakistan or Brazil these do not fade, are not irradiated and can have this rare unique color unlike any others. Gem clear and lustrous, a true Hiddenite (the town of Hiddenite is about 6 KM from Stony point, the zone where this was first discovered in 1879). Classic specimen from a classic locale of a rare quality.
