Description
An absolutely stunning, cabinet-sized amethyst specimen from the famous deposits in the Goboboseb Mountains, near Brandberg, in the Erongo Region of Namibia! This specimen consists of a beautiful amethyst crystal, towering over several large, yellow calcite crystals, small amethyst, and green prehnite groups. The main amethyst crystal is accentuated dramatically by several green prehnite groups near the termination, as well as fantastic, red hematite inclusions throughout. The amethyst was broken in the pocket, near the base, and caught by the crystallizing calcite. It amazes me that the calcite positioned the amethyst upright, at such a perfect angle that, upon first glance, the break is hardly discernible at all. The calcite is a golden yellow hue, not typical of this material. More often the color is very pale. The contrast between the yellow calcite, purple amethyst and green prehnite is quite striking, and creates a visual presence of its own. Top it off with world-class aesthetics and you have a truly significant specimen. This is mineral perfection in my eyes, and stands out as a truly magnificent piece, even among the myriad of material that has been flowing from this region in recent years. Blake Barnett photo.
