Description
From the famous but uncommon Ofiki locality in Nigeria, this tourmaline has a deep cranberry red color which stretches into a beautiful vibrant, almost lemony yellow color. This locality is well known for its alluvial gem crystals and the cranberry color tourmaline that it produces. Most pieces are fairly small and often damaged. This specimen has minor wear, but no major damages. It is facet-grade in clarity and has a glassy luster which shows its beautiful natural growth stria and allows it to glow with color in virtually any light. The termination is a beautiful pinacoidal structure that reaches a perfect point. I almost hate to mention this, but this is its natural color. Nigerian tourmalines often respond to heat treatment which reduces the brown color and can make an intense rubellite. This most likely could be faceted to high dollar gemstones, but we hope this is never done to such an important example from this locality
