My Uranopolycase at Rosina vein, Elba island (or not?...)

Last Updated: 10th Dec 2013

By Giuliano Bettini

In the 90s, I have found a number of specimens, hunting for Euxenite-(Y), Uranopolycrase etc. at Rosina vein.
But........
On the book by Orlandi, Pezzotta it is said that "the crystals of Euxenite-(Y) are, from a morphological point of view, practically identical to those of Polycrase-(Y)" and that "even the Uranopolycrase and Manganocolumbite are morphologically similar to those of Euxenite-(Y)".
"Compared to Uranopolycrase both Euxenite-(Y) and Polycrase-(Y) usually show a glassy-adamantine luster and a freshness that Uranopolycrase did not, for the alteration processes that ...." and so on.
Ref: Orlandi, P., & Pezzotta, F. (1997). Minerali dell'Isola d'Elba. Edizioni Novecento Grafico, Bergamo.
So, without analysis, what are the conclusions?
Boh!
1 give up (do not post the pictures on Mindat);
2 use the best possible name, as it appears from a visual identification.
I decided on the option 2.
Examples: that's the better denomination I've found, with the help of some Italian collectors.

Hi Giuliano, "I decided on the option 2."

At the moment the best decision. Important is the location on the Label, the "Rest" is a question of Time ;-)

http://www.mindat.org/photo-463722.html

Grazie :)
