Thanks for the great work, Dominik ! I was getting worried about the overflow of similar pictures of mediocre specimens of common minerals in many of the Mindat galleries. That was a great way of presenting the most interesting pictures sorted according to the different habits of the minerals !

A great start. Would it be possible to put a caption with each photo indicating the locality and link it to that particular mindat locality? and if possible the size of the specimen or crystals?. I know you can click on the image and get more information but that is distracting. Perhaps arrange them alphabetically by country?

Hi Rock,
Your suggestion echoes that from David von Bargen in the message board.
I deliberately ommited captions on the photos, for the following reasons:
- the information is just 1 click away (I don't know what browser you use, but with tabbed browsing and mouse gestures it's not distracting)
- the locality strings can take up a lot of space, disrupting the neat tilling of the thumbnails.
- the geo-political subdivisioning does not provide much enlightenment
- Without the locality data, you can use this page for quizzes

I wanted to keep the page layout very simple and uncluttered, focusing solely on habits and esthetics. In this context geopolitical information appears secondary to me.

Regarding the alphabetical arrangement, I'm afraid the pictures are already arranged according to morphological and pictorial similarity, resulting in similar pieces from different locations ending up next to each other, and pieces from the same locality being scattered all over the page. That's intentional too :-).

This is exactly what the articles system was designed for - thank you Dominik for producing such a great example of what it's for.

I think for localities it might be a good to stick just a country name under each - this would work for Rhodochrosite where if you put 'Peru' or 'South America' it is probably enough.
