Last Updated: 9th Dec 2009

"Nature's Treasures II: The Wonder of Minerals and Gems" Conference, Sunday 13th December 2009

Flett Lecture Theatre, Natural History Museum, London.

Following the success of last year's event registration is now available online for the forthcoming joint meeting with the Mineralogical Society and Gemmological Association of Great Britain, in association with the Natural History Museum, London. Attendance is limited to 175 delegates and we are anticipating strong interest, so please book early if you would like to attend. The aim is to provide a day of short talks which will be of interest to an audience comprising members of all three organisations, and to others who have not previously had an association with any of the organisations mentioned above. Students from schools and universities are welcomed and members of Rockwatch, in particular, are encouraged to participate. The cost for the day, including lunch, is just £16.00. Full details and online registration are on the Mineralogical Society website at: http://www.minersoc.org/pages/meetings/nature2/nature2.html. [Link Broken? May 2013]

The day will commence with coffee and registration at 10.00 am followed by the first talk at 10.30 am. Lunch will be followed by some displays with more talks in the afternoon. An exciting line-up of talks is planned, with the following speakers already committed:

Alan Collins: Diamond - a unique mineral and the ultimate gemstone.

N. Moles: The Russell Society: promoting mineralogy and helping mineralogists in the UK and Ireland.

M. Feely.

R. Siddall.

Guy Clutterbuck: Gems from mines.

J. Faithfull: 250 years of mineral collecting at the Hunterian Museum.

C. Carlon: Mining the Ocean.

Jolyon Ralph: Mindat.org - Building an online mineral database
