Gold Hill

Report from Saturday's Expedition.
The underground workings were closed by the state about 2 years ago with either bat grates or thick cement and rock walls. Most of the closures have been broken open. In the past year chain link fencing has been secured over the adits and signs have been put up posting no trespassing. With the underground workings "closed off" I spent part of the day working the Middle Pit and the South Dump. Plenty of specimens can be with little work.
In the Middle Pit I found several Japan-Law twin quartz specimens to to 2cm & some nice conichalcite on quartz. In the Glory Hole I found lots of conichalcite, adamite, hidalgoite, and austinite on gossan.
On the South Dump I found philipsburgite on massive garnet, zalesiite sprays, azurite crystals to 2mm, and olivinite replaced and covering conichalcite.
On the 80' level dump I found hydrohetaerolite crystals.
Zeke found some nice cuprian adamite digging in the 60"(?) level from in the Glory Hole. He actually opened the adit up. It was completely closed off before he started digging.
Photo 1 is the Middle Pit high wall and Photo 2 is part of the South Pit and dump.
The conclusion is that there is still good collecting potential left at Gold Hill.
