Not much to write here about rockhounding or collecting. I have been without a car since last october and have just been working and paying off debt so i can buy a decent vehicle. Living in Ohio an area with very few collecting opportunities and not owning a car I shifted my focus to a vegetable garden.
I put two passions of mine together. Since I love peru (especially the food) I'd thought I'd put it together a bit more. The ingredients are harder to find in this area than say in New Jersey or Miami and California. So when I made my last trip home from Lima, Peru I decided to plant some things once spring rolled around. I had some choclo (peruvian corn on steroids), and two varieties of pepper seeds. I planted them. A week later I'd venture to the West Side Market. I bought purple potatoes there, a peruvian variety. P.S Potatoes are Peruvian! There are thousands of varieties of potatoes native to Peru and most the Andes.
So, garden in place I began to watch it grow.
It had been coming along very nice. My corn were taller than me, however had not grown tassles yet. This confused me. I let it be.
I wake up this morning to the sound of strong winds. I go start to make a sandwhich look out the window at my garden and can't see it.
I can't see my 7 foot tall corn plants...
All my corn are flattened or snapped off half-way up the stock. I'm sad.
At least I still have my peppers and potatoes but i'm considering those tomato cages or something as reinforcement for the peppers.
I don't want to lose any more of my garden.
Perhaps this is a sign to stick to minerals?
About minerals... I'm hoping to get up to Bancroft either in September or by the 10th of October for my birthday. Pretty much after the Canadian thanksgiving the weather is all downhill and people are all hunting things or getting set up for deer season. Will keep posted.
