Closed mineral collecting sites around Bancroft

Hail all. Here is a short list of NOW closed minerals collecting sites around Bancroft Ontario. Some have been closed for a while but some are recent closures. Now you can always try to contact the owner of these sites to get access but you cant just go to the site with ought explicit permission. This is just for the knowldege for all collectors, so you don't accidentally trespass.

1.)
-Davis Hill
-Lilly Robertson
-Cancrinite Hill

All three sites are owned now by the same owner.

2.)
-Dyno mine
-Madawaska Faraday Mine

Rehabilitated mines

3.)
-Genesee No. 2 Mine

The new owner is no longer allowing access & collecting to collectors.

4.)
- Wilberforce Molybdenite Mine

5.)
- York River Skarn
- Goulding Keene Quarry
- York River Corundum

Located on provincial park property, no collecting any time.

6.)
- Dwyer Mine
- Richardson Fission Mine

If any you out there have any more info on closed sites please ad to this blog. so we all may benefit.

Also i would like to add that the National Graphite mine is on private property and there is no trespassing & collecting at any time.

The Vardy Quarry is also on private property, no trespassing.

The Joiner Property (near the Richardson Fission mine) is closed to collectors. No trespassing & collecting.

Joiner property. I dont recall that one. too bad though. There is an allanite property I'd like to check out next spring if I can find it I read the wall of the quarry was loaded with allanite up to 30 % allanite in the wall I think. I'll have to read over it again. hopefully its not closed or currently being explored.

Geeez, at this rate the area will soon be called (Welcome to Bancroft, the mineral (can't collect) Capital of Canada) What a joke this is..

Damn right Andrew. They are not putting any effort to attract rockhounds, we have to do more and more work to find stuff. Bloody lazy people & they wonder why they are having financial issues.

I am hoping the richardson mine is just something temporary. I think its a logging operation. hopefully thats all it is. If houses go in there its doomed. But after logging if they permit collectign would be awesome because all the workings hopefully would be easier to find. I finally bought my own copy of a report on the deposit by the GSC and it has a map of all the pits. So i'm really praying for this one!!!!
