UV Flashlights (385 nm)
3rd October 2007
Bright, highly efficient and compact, our LED longwave Ultraviolet flashlights are pushing the limits of today's technology. The heart of the unit is 12 each 380-385 nanometer light emitting diodes (LEDs) which are highly efficient and run on low voltage, typically ~2V. The power requirements are low and, 3 commonly available AAA size batteries are all that is required. There are many UV flashlights on the market today, but what is unique to our light is the long wavelength cut visible light filter. Our filter highly attenuates visible light beginning at 400 nanometers increasing contrast and allowing materials that are less fluorescent to be seen. Applications include:
Mineralogy
Medical
Laboratory
Forensics
Educational
Leak Detection
Urine Detection
Fraud Detection
Any application requiring longwave UV
This highly compact UV light will fit into a shirt pocket, replacing much larger lamps that require either household AC power or heavy batteries. The high efficiency of solid state light emitting diodes results in long battery life.
The graph below illustrates the effect of the visible light blocking filter. The cutoff begins around 400 nanometers, just beyond the main LED 380-385 nanometer spectral lines, and highly attenuates the visible light portion of the LED spectrum. About 80% of all visible light is blocked. In short, the filter increases the contrast of the excited state emission of the specimen under observation.
