New Minerals Posted

1st April 2008

Today we have a selection of red Variscite specimens from Lavra Boa Vista, Galiléia,, Minas Gerais, Brazil. These specimens are from the find in early 2006 at this pegmatite which contains rare phosphate minerals.

Variscite is a relatively rare Aluminium Phosphate, and it is more uncommon to find red Variscite.

The specimens are very attractive with bright red through pink Variscite contrasting nicely against the white Albite matrix, and sometime in combination with pale purple Strengite, and the Variscite has a vitreous lustre, giving a sparkle to the specimen.
