Going to list new items on the auction site this afternoon, there was a banner, to the effect no new auctions are being accepted. That's very sad. Trade on the site is surely not strong but it provides a service and probably has yet to build the critical mass of offerings to attract the buying activity that produce the sales.

Or is the closure a temporary one whilst the site is re-designed or similar?

Please may we know what's going on?

I want to sell cheap, but I can't quite afford to give them away. Would it be possible to change the starting bid on auction 2953 to $20.00, Auction 2.55 to $8.00 and Auction 2956 to $30.00. Thanks, Ray

Could you delete Items #2734 & 2735. Both were sold on another auction. There is a bid on 2735, chlorite included quartz. May I have the email of the bidder so that I can offer another piece that is very similar?

Is there a way I can delete unsold items so that I don't make this mistake again?

My apologies and thanks.

hi i want to know if someone supervise the items offered in this auctions and if the honesty of the sellers was verified or if it's like on ebay where everyone can sell minerals without be sure of what they sold.i see a seller than i have no need to name who's asking help to identify his minerals but he offered the same minerals at big price without have a perfect id of this minerals. that's doesn't make really serious.im always think than mindat was a really more secured place to buy minerals than ebay but now im not very sure.sorry for my bad english but i hope you will be able to understand the main idea of my topic cause if anyone can sell is bullshit here what the interest to try to make something better than the ebay formula.bye

Another mindat friend bought two fluorites from me on mindat auctions and though I had thought I had left feedback he told me mindat has blocked him from the auctions because I did not leave feedback. This is distressing to me, because I have had a similial issue of being blocked when I was waiting on payment as agreed upon by another mindater. I received no response from mindat the first time I had an issue and had to cancel those auctions. Please respond so we can get this cleared up. This costumer whom I have since remained in contact with purchases items from many sellers on mindat. If I made the mistake of not leaving feedback let me resolve this. I stil believe I left feedback.

Look I have a guy on here that has won two items and I am waiting for payment. This person has been in contact with me and I have no problem waiting until he is ready to make payment or cancel the auction altogther and relist upon his request. Considering the holidays and shipping costs to other countries and the fact that we e-mail regularily I will not make him look bad for delayed payment when I agreed to hold these items Also he is a repeat costumer.

Now Mindat has restricted me from listing more items because of this. I do not know why and I have just finished photographing some forty pieces and want to list them. Should I just cancel listings he won and deal with it offsite?

The way I see it if I was ordering from another mindat person in another country I would want to try and win multiple items to make it worth the shipping costs.

Please enable me to list or let me know if I should cancel this auctions in question.

I would like to start offering 100 euro lots on Mindat auctions with 10 minerals per lot, just to get the momentum going with this collection (700 pieces or something left) and I was curious about how this would go.

For example, most of the specimens in the lot would be worth at least 20 euros each minimum, so a pretty good bargain :)

I was also thinking about themes, like 'Aquamarines of the world', etc.

And also with the gem minerals, offering several crystals and cut stones in a lot.

Opinions?

Also, would this go into wholesale lots?

Hi Everyone,
I just had a question on what size of specimens should go into the Micromount and Micromineral category on the auctions. I know that micromounts are generally crystals that are best viewed under a microscope and generally don't have much to do with the size of the matrix to which they are attached. But what is the largest crystal or matrix size that Mindat wants in the Micromount category?
Say pieces that would fit into a micromount box but the crystal is 3 to 5mm - this is pretty small to be considered a thumbnail but I wouldn't consider it to be a micromount. What about 1mm crystals on matrix?
I don't want to start a discussion over sizes and definitions. I just want to make sure I follow Mindat guidelines so I don't list anything in the wrong category.
Thanks for everyone's hard work on the site.

If it was at all possable I think the finished auction version would be more seller friendly if we had a way for sellers to pull up a page that shows current items with bids instead of having to scroll through and check them. This would be a benifit if we are allowed to revise listings. Say I have a bid of less then my reserve and I wanted to accept the less then reserve price. Towards the very end of the auction I could drop the hidden reserve down. I do think reserve prices should only be allowed to go down not up. I personally list on ebay and there system works fairly well, but I would rather see mindat auctions work better and attract more buyers and sellers then ebay.

Is that available when reposting?

Looks like Mindat is getting a few more auction listings lately, so I decided that I should participate. I put up 10 items. After a quiet period as is normal I have a bid, but I now am interested in knowing the bidder's code name and country of origin. Especially if they will want international shipping. If I knew the country, I could get a shipping estimate when I go to the post office next, rather than making a special trip. Could we get a feature where the email address is visible to the seller?

Hello all, new member here and I just have a couple of questions before I put an auction or two up.

Is there a listing fee yet or a recommended donation perecentage? I've had a look but cannot seem to find any scale of fees.

Also is there anything I should know about posting radioactive and/or potentialy toxic specimens internationally? I have bought and sold gemstones all over the world before but nothing that may upset the postal service before ;) .

This is a brilliant site, very impressive and I hope to be able to contribute some usefull data here from my digging/detecting/prospecting results.

Regards,

i got a bunch of flourescing minerals, and found out afterwards that you really do need a short wave UV light for the display. ive been pricing, and im NOT paying $200-$500 for 1 light. ive found some for $35 but its battery opperated, and probably a little shorter than id like, but could work. i was asking around, still, and was told to check on a posting site, and see if anyone is getting rid of anything. ideally, i need 20"-30" whatever wattage(lowest necessary) im setting a box up around 20"-30"long, 10"-20"deep, and 10"20"tall, so i dont need anything big. im looking for something complete, that has the filter, and everything else necessary. if its missing just the bulb, thats not the end of the world, cause i can get those, but i would need it to be set up w/everything else. let me know if you can help me out. thanks

Hello David VB & team,

Auction item 1496 has been paid, shipped, and gratefully received today; it seems the postprocessing (notification mails, feedback forms) hasn't moved ahead though. It was a restarted auction, where I gather this is not entirely unexpected.

Many thanks in advance for giving the electrons a gentle push in the right direction!

And a (tu) for Mindat Auctions in general, and thank you all who have put so much work into making them happen!

Cheers, Gerhard

About the auctions, if this is to work there should be some strict rules; rare species category should contain rare species not Calcite, Quartz etc. Display mineral specimens should show mineral specimens not the tumbled stones and carving rough, cutting stones and gems should be in the category provided for this only. Already this auction attempt looks worst than eBay.
If it can be kept clean and to the subject it will bring in serious collectors, otherwise it will be a site for junkies to post their barbarous soliciting in a way telephone soliciting is done.
I may sound very orthodox in my views but being to strict is better than anarchy.
I believe that we could in the realm of minerals and fossils beat eBay by leaps if only we think straight and keep away from flea market attitude.
So jump on the bandwagon and do some thinking.
