Beryllium Virgin Claim, Paramount Canyon, Sierra Co., New Mexico, USA

This locality is the only "dig" in Paramount Canyon and all minerals & photos for locality Paramount Canyon (33338) are from this claim. Although the once valid claim is no longer in force, either Beryllium Virgin (33334) claim should be combined with Paramount Canyon (33338) or the reverse. Beryllium Virgin is already listed as a sub-locality of Paramount Canyon but because of the seperation the mineral list is incomplete.......and it's all only one location!

Thanks,

Don

edit: If I knew how to accomplish this I take care of the problem myself. I think the string should be: Paramount Canyon, (Beryllium Virgin Claim), Black Range Tin District, Sierra Co., New Mexico. Locality 33334, Berylliun Virgin Claim, could be deleted and it's contents (mineral list, photos, etc.) moved to locality 33338, Paramount Canyon.

Hello Pat....thanks for the bit of history!!! Joan Beyer had told me that she thought you had been one of the claimants but wasn't positive. I prefer your claim name over the more general "Paramount Canyon".....it is a long canyon! Cookie & I did find one red beryl at the cassiterite/bixbyite/pseudobrookite dig and a small vug of what appears to be colorless beryls (or basal termination quartz?)

Hi Chet and Don.
In 1979 I found red beryl 100-250' away from the cassiterite vein at Paramount Canyon. My field collecting partner & I staked a claim on it since Utah facet-grade red beryl was selling for about $4,000 per carat. We named it the Beryllium Virgin, but unfortunately the largest beryl xls were 3 mm and were always opaque and fractured. We dropped the claim in 1982 or 1983. Immediately afterwards it might have been restaked by FRM Minerals, Inc., who had the idea of investigating the district for a tin porphyry. It did not pan out.

Don,

They are now separate eschelons in the locality string, not the same locality per se. The claim is in the valley, ergo, the valley is in the string. Each higher eschelon reflects the species from all subordinate eschelons. Actually, I thought about adding in the next level - the Black Mountains, but decided against it at the moment since it would require a more complicated regional set of changes and take up substantial time.

Chet, Thank you.....I still find two localities. Would it be possible to simply add (Beryllium Virgen Claim) to the Paramount Canyon location and delete the seperate Beryllium Virgin Claim Mindat location? Or is this a case of waiting for the cache to clear....

Anyway, thanks!!
