After looking more closely at the specimens, I think that aegirine-augite might be most likely. But, how to be more certain, I don't know. I don't have access to analytical services very easily.

Here's another puzzle:

The specimen list that came with the unlabeled micromineral rough said that rhabdophane-(Ce) would be found as "creme fibres xls". That certainly matches the above image. Can anyone who has seen rhabdophane-(Ce) from Krufter Ofen confirm this ID?

Danke!

Could it have something to do with Facebook? (I noticed a Facebook link is in the photo caption).
Dear (one Mindat Admin),
My photo, please note "my photo" [www.mindat.org] yesterday had about a maximum of 200/250 views but today it has 935 views! Someone is trying to get some confusion again. What should I do? Can you please fix the existing photo in the front page (or other) to avoid any further confusion?
Thank you very much

Rob: the photo should be with my first post. Let me know if you don't see it.

To the other guys, if interested, read on:
Jean-Marie: Actually, there are lots of schists and gneisses with garnet but without kyanite. Kyanite has a pretty limited pressure-temperature-stability field while garnet doesn't. But you may know that already.

Mike: Then you may remember the part of the hike not too far from Jomsom where the trail/road is wedged in the rock walls (where the name "gorge" is well justified). That's where they are. In pretty much all the outcrops with kyanite, it is not as obvious as garnet. I came upon a freshly broken surface that showed the blades nicely. Otherwise I may have walked past them, too.

Jose: I fully agree with you. All the material on the market sure is from Jajarkot.

Jean Claude, Andy, Mike, very thanks for your input. After all, is sure there is kyanite in Kali Gandaki Gorge, as we can read in the literature and confirmed by Andy. But, as said, if we believe dealers and Mines Department, all kyanites available in Kathmandu today seems to come from the mines in Jajarkot area.

Relating nomenclature, I just revised a political map and the border between Mustang District and Myagdi District, both into Dhaulagiri Zone, cross the Kali Gandaki Gorge by half. Then, northern part af the gorge is in Mustang and southern part belongs to Myagdi.

After all, my proposition for Kali Gandaki Gorge locality page is:
- Change the nomenclature of the locality from "Kali Gandaki Gorge (Kali Gandaki river region; Andha Galchi), Annapurna Sanctuary (Annapurna Himal), Dhawalagiri (Dhaulagiri) Zone, Nepal" to "Kali Gandaki Gorge, Myagdi and Mustang Districts, Dhaulagiri Zone, Nepal".
- Leave kyanite as it is, and add almandine and muscovite.

Hello Andy,
I did not trek in the valley of the Kali Gandaki. If garnet is present, why not kyanite? There is a wide band of metamorphism along the mountains of the region ...
That said, I think it is best to separate the two areas 1. Dhaulagiri massif & 2.Annapurna massif.
The Annapurna Sanctuary is not part of the area of Dhaulagiri is an obvious :)
Bonjour Andy ,

I hate to make matters more complicated but the locality "Kali Gandaki" (between the towns of Lete and Dana) is perfectly correct as a locality for fairly nice kyanites up to 6 or more cms. I've been passing the kyanite and garnet bearing gneisses last year. They form a zone a few 100 meters wide. This said, "Jajarkot" is by far the more important one, probably also because of very poor accessibility in that part of the Kali Gandaki.

Hello to all
I confirm "Annapurna base camp" n is not in in Daulagiri area. This error also strongly troubled me for some time. But with my approximate English, I do not want to get into a complicated discussion.
In fact you should talk
Annapurnas massif and Daulagiri massif.
These two mountain ranges are separated by the Kali Gandaki River. The river has its source in the Annapurna Sanctuary is the Modi Khola, which is a tributary of the Kali Gandaki, it pours West Pokara.
I have not met on my trek kyanite (1998) and Pokara between the base camp, but I found red garnet (almandine?) In a small tributary of the Modi Khola, at about this Tadapani / Chomrung. This area is subject to metamorphism visible by the large amount of mica-schists. Highest to the peaks of the Annapurna and Machapucharre sedimentary sequence is present but is also slightly metamorphosed. I have a rock sample from the sanctuary with black beans, but hard to say what it is? Pyrite or other? Sample found on the surface so thirsty!
I'll post some other stories in a few days to make better known the unknown zone (but busy _LOL)
sincerely
Jean Marie
Bien cordialement
