Hi,
Conference is closer and closer... As you can imagine we have some problems but try to resolve all of them. It just showed up that there is a possibility that our transport with materials, including Conference Program, will be late and arrive at the 1st November, so day after registration... Munich is far from Marrakesh...
For this reason we publish on-line whole program. You can download it here:
[dl.dropbox.com]

Maybe good idea is to print first day than you have it even if our transport is late.
See you soon!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MOROCCO CONFERENCE AND FIELD TRIPS (2 replies)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MOROCCO CONFERENCE AND FIELD TRIPS

As the date for the conference gets closer and closer, it's time to
give you some important details that you MUST read and understand
regarding the conference.

1. During our field trips we will be travelling in ELEVEN different minibuses,
however your checked luggage will NOT be travelling with us each day,
it will be going by another minibus direct to the next hotel. So it is
VERY important that you prepare a carry bag every day with everything
you will need during the day (tools, wrapping materials, medicines,
your personal documents, etc) as you will NOT be able to access your
luggage until you return to the hotel in the evening.

2. Every day we will set off at the pre-defined time, and we will NOT
be able to wait for latecomers. If you oversleep, or are slow getting
ready, you will miss out on they day's activities, so make sure you
are ready in time. And if we're not scheduled to arrive back at that
hotel during the trip, you'll have to arrange your own travel, at your
own expense, to rejoin our group at the next destination (you will
have all of these details in case you need them - hopefully you
won't).

3. Your registration passes will show you which group you are in and
from there you will know which bus you need to board, where you need
to visit, etc. DO NOT change places with other people in other groups
without first clearing it with Tom and your group leader or you will
cause us lots of unnecessary frustrations.

4. During the trips, please be fair to everyone else on the tour and
follow instructions promptly. If we announce that we need to be ready
to leave in a few minutes, then do not continue hammering, but instead
start wrapping your finds. Do not let other people have to wait on
you.

5. Toilet stops will be provided en route, but be prepared, this is
Africa, not a luxury tourist resort, so the roadside toilet facilities
may not be as pleasant as those you are normally used to. However
remember that in these arid environments there are not always
convenient bushes to hide behind when a call of nature comes, so you
are encouraged to make use of these stops to avoid embarrassment
later.

6. In connection with the above, it's a good idea to bring your own
toilet paper, and not just for wrapping specimens.

If any questions please feel free to email us.

Looking forward to see you all at Morocco!

30 days to go and counting!

So I've been doing a decent amount of reading about things to bring with you to Morrocco, not only from the collecting perspective but also the general Holidaying perspective. I know there is an FAQ on the Conference site but I thought I'd add a few things that I've seen recommended. If there's anything I've missed, feel free to add and likewise, those who know better, I'd be great to hear what won't be necessary;

- Medication (Anti Diahorrea and Anti Hangover)
- Travel Insurance
- Hand Sanitiser (For those moments when you're caught short)
- TP (For wrapping specimens and for those moments when you're REALLY caught short)
- Ear plugs (I've heard that the first hotel is very close to a mosque so the liklihood is there will be at least one 5am wake up call)
- A few choice phrases (Please, Thank You, Where's the nearest Bar?, I'm really sorry, I was so drunk etc etc)
- Sun glasses (Duh)
- Sun screen (Also Duh but very easily forgotten!)
- Shorts that are knee length or longer (Nobody want's to see thigh...)
- Strong walking boots AND a pair of delightful loafers/sneakers/trainers/flip flops/sandles
- Good socks to support the above footwear (also useful if caught REALLY REALLY short)

- Hammer and Chisel/ Pick
- Gloves (Not entirely necessary)
- Eye Protection (Very necessary!)
- Helmet (If going underground/Arguing with the wife)
- A sturdy bag for carrying obscene quantities of rock, that, upon closer inspection, you decide weren't worth the hassle you went through to haul them down the mountainside/up from the quarry floor.
- A loupe for attempting to make the above assessment while actually still up said mountain/in quarry

Anymore? :-)
