Gail's NEW favourite of the day, PART 2

Continuing Gail's excellent thread.

Here were her rules, which I totally agree with:

"Hey everyone, on this thread let's stick to favorites that you have in your collection, or that you have seen in a Museum. NOT what you have for sale! The original concept of my Favourites thread is to chat about, and show, a piece that you really enjoy on that particular day. Limit ONE posting per day! It started for me when I was walking past a case in our home, stopped, turned on the lights and admired a piece in our collection that really gave me a thrill. Thus the name, Favourite of the Day. Don't worry about sizes unless you wish to add them, many new people aren't overly familiar with sizing their minerals and this is a FUN thread, sorry to the moderators who will cringe at that. This thread is about showing the mineral that THRILLS you today! "

Another piece, that highly impressed me at the Changsha show, was this largest morganite ever found in Pakistan (about 35 cm, I estimate), owned by The Arkenstone. The poor photo can not reflect the unbelievable quality of this giant piece.

Now my first day at the 1st Changsha Mineral & Gem Show is over. Seeing so many wonderful things, it is hard to decide which one is my favorite for today. The easiest way is to choose a well-known one: the "Empress of China"! This rhodo is just stunning. No more words necessary...

Found in the early 1990s on the railway line near the old Black Hill workings close to the site of the Welcome Nugget discovery location. The quartz boulder must have been used as ballast on the railway line until school children found it and happened to break it open. It obviously is an alluvial boulder from the deep lead workings judging from its rounded shape. Quartz is 70x60x45mm. Gold area is about 7.5mm across and is crystalline.

It made it over to New Zealand in the 1990s and has now returned home.
This is from a small rock and mineral show that was held May 4th and 5th in Brainerd, Minnesota (USA). I love it! :-)

Rhodochrosite with Fluorite
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province, Lima Department, Peru
8.8 x 6.7 x 5 cm.

A fine small cabinet specimen of rhodochrosite crystals on matrix from the Uchucchacua Mine, in Peru. The scalenohedral crystals reach up to 1 cm (most are smaller) and have glassy luster and a deep rose-red color. Many are doubly terminated. Micro colorless fluorite cubes are visible upon close examination. Tim Blackwood specimen and photograph.

Hope it's okay to include the close-up. It's not that much closer, but I thought it would show the crystals (including the small fluorites) better.
