Interesting that you mentioned the Rolling Rock Beer. Back in 1971 a friend of mine and myself left Concord,NC to go to the Franklin, NC show via South Carolina. (This is before Interstate 40 was completed.) On the way back we had a blow out and took out two reflectors on the side of the highway. Within minutes a South Carolina Cop who looked like an extra from the movie Cool Hand Luke -Complete with mirrored sunglasses asked us what we were doing on the side of the road. I carefully tried not to state the obvious. Then he noticed the Rolling Rock Club sticker on our rear window (Some of you old timers probably remember the Rolling Rock Club. It was an attempt to have a national club with no real rules and no membership requirements. The meetings were usually held at rock shows throughout the country. More fun that decorum. With all due respect this reject from the Dukes of Hazard movie shades of Boss Hawg could not wrap his head around the fact that we were not drinking that old Rolling Rock Beer. When we explained to him that we were rock collectors and this was a club of people who liked to collect rocks he muttered something to the effect that that was the stupidest damn thing he had ever heard of and left us to change our tire. I feel sure he went back to the station house and had a good time telling his fellow officers about those strange non beer drinking fools that collect rocks. I am glad I didn't tell him "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

Somebody wrote an article in Lapis a few years back with illustration of wine labels with mineralogical themes. Last year we had several
bottles of an excellent Italian wine called Aragonite with an aragonite collector friend, but I did not keep the label. Of course in the US everybody knows the cheap Australian wines labelled Black Opal. I am still waiting for somebody to name a wine Eudialyte. I did have quite a few bottles of Domaine Saint-Hilaire when it was avilable in Ontario, but I have not seen it lately.

Here's a Danish beer I picked up a couple of days ago, on a short trip to North Jylland - didn't go to the small island Fur where the beer was brewed, and where you can collect fossils and even a few minerals. In my collection I have opalized diatoms and natrojarosite. But what does this have to do with volcanoes? Well, in the sedimentary layers there are distinct darker volcanic ash layers from the "Skagerak volcanoes", having regular eruptions during early Tertiary period Eocene (ca 55 million years ago).

Here is one for Copper Queen Whiskey that I found at an estate sale in Apache Junction, AZ. I was asked to help disperse a collection rich in minerals and mining antiques and jumped at the chance to get this old porcelain jug with this label and I assumed it was associated with the Copper Queen mine in Bisbee. I noticed the Calumet, Michigan portion on the label and have found out very, very little about this particular whiskey produced by N.R. Bianchi of Calumet, MI. Anyway, it is a permanent part of my decor in my mineral room.
