"New Discussions"

Small point, but I wonder if there might be consideration of a way to do the "New Discussions" box on the home page a little differently. I check it occasionally to see whether there is some new discussion listed that's of interest to me. This morning I see that all five discussions are on dolomite crystals (in Italian). The topic is fine, but these really aren't five discussions, they are five messages in the same discussion. Seems like there ought to be a way to see the five most recently updated "threads" (discussions) rather than the five most recent messages, which all can be part of the same discussion.

Bob. To get better answers for your questions, start them as a new topic rather than replying to another topic that has nothing to do with your enquiry. The simple answer to your question is yes

This is a question that may have been previously discussed and/or answered, but as I want to know, I will ask it again.

If opal is quartz containing water, does it over time, loose its luster and "play of light and color"? Or, put another way, should these stones be stored under water or periodically be soaked in water to keep their "freshness"?

You might find it better to use the 'RSS' link in the top-right corner of the new messages area - this gives a longer detailed list (and up-to-date too) of messages recently posted. You need a web browser that supports RSS though, Firefox does for sure.
