Wow that sounds like fun. I edited my post because it may have been the Adams mine we visited and the 1270ct emerald found by W.E. Hidden that's now in the Smithsonian that they had on display in the shop. Both emeralds look similar and it was a long time ago.

Good luck again.

The mine we use to go to was the NAEM mine and the I believe the emerald I saw in the shop is the Finger emerald aka Stephenson emerald. Is this the mine you are going to? After looking around it may have been the Adams mine we visited and the 1270ct emerald found by W.E. Hidden? Which mine are you going to?

Let us all know how things go. My parents use to take me there camping back in the early 70's. I remember going into the shop there and looking at this huge emerald they had in a glass case in the center of the shop. I don't know if they ever cut it or just kept it as a specimen? I went by there a couple years ago when I was over that way at work and they had the area where we use to camp closed along with the area that was mined for emeralds. The guy in the shop said that people could dig and pan in the creek or buy salted gem buckets. I didn't think the mine was open at all. Not many people get to go there now days.

Good luck
