“The Student’s Mineral Collection”

Hello Folks,

“The Student’s Mineral Collection” by George O. Simmons

All 300 specimens are there along with the original manual which has hand written individual locations for each specimen.

I have both supporting reference books from the 1880s and workable key for the lock (the key is probable not original)

The specimens are dusty and no attempt has been made to clean them.

I have had estimates from professional antique appraisers, however I eventually want to sell the “Collection” to a person that can appreciated it for its historical specimen collection and I am looking for an estimate of its value this community.

I have really enjoyed the collection, but it is time to let some else have that privilege and reinvest the proceeds into new specimens.

How rare is one of these collections?

What is the estimated value of the collection as a whole?

A.E. Foote sold such things in the ~1880-1910 period. I'm an avid A.E. Foote collector, and I've seen very few complete (or even partial) collections that still exist. These sell for a few hundred to maybe $1,000, depending upon the number of specimens, damage, completeness, etc. Foote's company was very active, so I imagine that such sets from lesser know companies are even rarer. I'd place the retail price at about $2,000.
