Harjo,
If you decide to write up the format thing for future contributors I think your idea of showing what the edit field above is a very good one. I think you should first show for example what the introductory stuff looks like in reality and then just after that what it looks like in the edit mode. Then show what a page of various images look like, first a big one centered, then two on a line, followed by three on a line and then a tall one with two smaller ones to the right and what ever other combinations you can think of. Then follow it with what the edit view with the code looks like. What do you think? You up for that?

If you are, start a net thread in the Best Minerals general section and make it sticky so it will be at the top and give it a name something like Instructions for Authors.

Harjo,

OK, I tend to agree that the line spacing between the images is not a big deal and I think you are correct in your aesthetic judgement on one or two line spacings depending on the space between the pictures. We should talk about this in the introductory section so future authors can have some guidelines. I also do not see how it would make any difference to the eventual transfer of what we are creating to a database format. I think it might be time to rewrite the Welcome to the Best Minerals Forum. The bottom part of the article is an attempt to set forth an example of the format that we are trying to follow in these articles. Perhaps that part should be split out into a separate format example. Would you be willing to rewrite that section as a separate article in the welcome section. If there is anything in the format section example I gave using the Aluminium article you should feel free to use that and when you are done, we should scrap that part of the welcome section and for format advice refer users to your new section.

Rock, the one or two line spacing is not an issue for me. It depends on the spacing between the adjacent photos.
When there's a broader line between the photos I use two lines, when there's a narrow line between the two I use one line. So, don't change anything back Rock, your articles are the best!!
I'm also OK with one large photo with two adjacent smaller ones above each other, I hope to see all creativity unleashed ;-)
The above proposition is to give an idea of how to make a clean lay-out, indeed, as you mentioned, for the part past the introductory stuff.
I hope anyone with ideas about the lay-out will post their comments here.

Cheers,

Harjo,
We could use a standard layout for the articles, but there is a lot in you above suggested layout that I think needs changing or agreeing on. Perhaps you mean the above to not be a template for the entire article, but rather just to show the suggested line spacing for articles once you get past the introductory stuff? I notice you have only one space between the pictures. This is the way I was originally structuring the articles, but you suggested that there should be two line spacings between the images and in the example above you have gone back to one line spacing? When we agreed on the two line spacing, I went back and changed all the articles I had done to two line spacings between the images. It will be a lot of work to now change them back to one line spacing.
