How to ContributeSome questions regarding minID and unknown localities

16th Jun 2014 16:50 UTCNiels van Velzen

I am considering to slowly add my entire collection (including pictures) to the mindat database. This means that each specimen will automatically gets a minID. Regarding this, I have a few questions and help is appreciated:

-Is there an easy way to search in the "Your Catalogue Number" field?

-How do I add collection specimens to the mindat database (in order to get a minID) if I do not know the locality at all?

Thanx!

Niels

Hi Niels

The easiest way to solve your problems is to add the specimens in the Mindat Catalogue and then add photos to your catalogue entries. Catalogue entries do not need to have a valid locality. Photos without localities need to be selected as type 'Other' and then there is a subcategory for minerals without valid locality information.
