Hi,
anyone know anything about the current situation of the Varlamoffite?
Any article about?
Many thanks in advance,
Pedro Alves

Hi,
today i've analysed a sample of 'Varlamoffite' from Portugal.
The results show, besides the peaks of the stannite (in the sample and probably the origin of the 'varlamoffite'), something very close to the cassiterite.
That was mentioned, also, by Jambor et al (1995) in the American Mineralogist, Volume 80, pages 845-850
«Specimens from the Tigrinoye
deposit were investigated by all of the methods.
X-ray powder diagrams (diffractometer) showed the presence
of diffraction lines at 3.35(100,110), 2.63(90,101),
1.75(50,211), and 1.67 A (30,220), corresponding to a
cassiterite-like structure with a smaller cell size.»

Is somebody interested in this case?

Cheers,
Pedro Alves

Since I have a lot of this [www.mindat.org] I would be interested to know as well.

Hi,
another 'experiment' with the varlamoffite...

The data are not conclusive, but we seem to be present something structurally close to the cassiterite.
Given the width of the peaks we, also, can venture to say that the 'Varlamoffite' is present as smaller crystallites than cassiterite...
Is it right?
