Staffordshire Reef, Blackwood Gold Field, Victoria, Australia
April 28, 2011 09:19AM
I wanted to start a locality for the town/area called Staffordshire Reef south of Ballarat near Berringa, how should it be named to make it correct and distinct from the reef in Blackwood? The early digging on the main reef produced around 10 tons of gold and there is a lot of sulphide mineralisation so it deserves it's own page I think.

I am not sure if the reef at Blackwood exists - Didn't find any mention of it in a short history of Blackwood.

Although I have never heard of the Blackwood Staffordshire reef either there are so many reef mines around there both large and small it may well exist. I have come across a few reefs called Staffordshire over the years but there is only one place called Staffordshire Reef, think I just made that rather confusing!

I have listed the Ballarat Staffordshire reef here [www.mindat.org] , minerals submitted, gold and pyrite as found in recent sampling of soil/gravel sitting on bedrock there. Site and mineral photos to come soon.

Should Berringa be listed in the same format (Golden plains shire)? I see it is currently just Berringa, Victoria, Australia.
is there still gold in Staffordshire reef victoria
