LocalitiesMundo Nuevo Mine, Mundo Nuevo, Huamachuco, Sánchez Carrión Province, La Libertad, Peru

18th May 2011 03:01 UTCCosme Rafael Pérez-Puig Obieta

Mundo Nuevo mine was considered into the Pasto Bueno District due to several reasons, mainly thanks to the PhD thesis “Geologic, fluid inclusion and stable isotope studies of a tungsten-base metal ore deposit: Pasto Bueno, northern Peru” (1972, University Minnesota, 172 p.) carried out by Gary P. Landis.

The author studied the northern Peru tungsten deposits and considering similar formation processes and mineralogy included alltogether in the Pasto Bueno district; as it´s been the main ore deposit and where all activities were focused.

The discussion about Mundo Nuevo being part or not of the Pasto Bueno district took place also in Economic Geology after the publication of "Geologic, Fluid Inclusion and Stable Isotope Studies of the Pasto Buena Tungsten-Base Metal Ore Deposit, Northern Peru." (G.P. Landis & R.O. Rye, 1974; Econ. Geol., vol. 69, pp. 1025-1059). As can be seen in the Discussions of the same magazine: Econ. Geol. Vol. 70, 1975, pp. 993-994 between V.F. Hollister and the citated above scientists.

Furthermore, we can check another Econ. Geol. article, by D.I. Norman & G.P Landis, "Source of Mineralizing Components in Hydrothermal Ore Fluids as Evidenced by 87Sr/86Sr and Stable Isotope Data from the Pasto Bueno Deposit, Peru". D.I. Norman & G.P. Landis, 1983; Econ. Geol., vol. 78, pp. 451-465

In conclusion, considering Mundo Nuevo as part of the Pasto Bueno district is correct from a geological point of view. In the other hand, just considering political reasons, it should be a different mining area away from Pasto Bueno, as Carles Millán has correctly explained.

I would respect the geological or, at least, include it in the description of the Mundo Nuevo Mine in order to get better information for all.

Sincerely,

Cosme Pérez-Puig
