Hello all!
I was just wondering, does anyone happen to know whether or not collecting is currectly allowed at this locality at this time? I already know where the prospects are, and I was hopeing to check the place out some time soon. If not, I guess we'll have to just go to Simpson...
Thanks in advance!

Simpson isn't a bad place! Hollister is closed, but only by a 'supposed' owner. I'm not sure who the real one is. If you do get a chance to go Matt, I'd be happy to come along
. As you know, I am quite a fan of the pegmatites in South Glastonbury.

I initially refrained from piping up here but because my picture is on the locality page, this thread and the comments so far have the potential to cast me in a bad light, I will comment now. I was taken to this spot by someone who is well known to many of you. There were no posted signs and we collected in peace for forty five minutes and went on our way. As I understand the locality, there are three sections so perhaps another part, not visited by me is closed.
For the life of me, I don't understand these "what is the status" threads." I have always found research done privately pays greater dividends. But your mileage might vary.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I actually stumbled upon the Hollister Prospects last spring while attempting to locate the Simpson Quarry (obviously I got a little lost). Back then, I saw no "no trespassing" signs at either the northern or southern prospects. I was hopeing to do some collecting there soon. After hearing the site was possibly closed, however, I though I might as well make sure. Guess we'll be going to Simpson after all (which we did eventually manage to locate
).
Thanks again!

I am excited to know this locality is 'open.' I am a very avid New England mineral collector an have recently moved back to Connecticut. If it's ok to go, I really want to check this place out. With the closing of many important Connecticut localities recently, it would be good to rediscover some old ones and use contemporary instrumental methods to do analysis of minerals from them.

Hi guys, As far as I know this site is NOT open to collecting. Several years ago there was a field trip run by an out of state club that got the place closed because they threw rocks down the hill along the path. They blocked off the stream and caused some flooding in people's back yards and they had to hire someone to clear out the stream bed. One area of the site was also pretty dug over and the property owner didn't like all the deep pits left behind or the damage to several trees that people dug under. As with most closures it only takes one or two guys not following the "rules" to screw it up for everyone.
I would check with the owner of the large house that sits on the back edge of the Husband(?) Howe(?) I always forget which is which.) Its just before the dirt road to Hollister. He knows all the owners in the area and can direct you to the correct owner to request permission if its available.
