PhotosAndalusite - Sponda Alp - Pizzo Forno, Chironico Valley, Leventina, Ticino, Switzerland

It is impossible to judge the crosscut from this photo, but the color looks more like this being a staurolite crystal. On the other hand, kyanite and sillimanite are mentioned from Pizzo forno, but no andalousite: the 3 polymorphs together would be very intresting.

Erik,

See http://www.geoloweb.ch/pdf/SMPM85_24.pdf . Andalusite is presumably present in quartz veins in kyanite grade rocks.

Quote:

" In contrast to kyanite, andalusite is restricted to the veins. It generally forms centimetre-sized porphyroblast often enclosing relics of partially resorbed and sometimes slightly deformed kyanite. "
