PhotosHematite - Chubb Lake Prospects, Chubb Lake, St. Lawrence Co., New York, USA

Is Chubb Lake spelled with 2 b's? Per the Rocks and Minerals vol.82 no. 6 page 480 the locality is spelled with one b. In attempting a search for Chubb Lake on Goggle Earth, it does not show although a number of other Chubb Lake localities show in other states and in Canada.

No Douglas, your suspicions are correct.

Chub Lake in New York state is spelled with just one "b", not two. The labels on my reference specimens from that area also spell it with just one"b" as well.

Mindat had it correct at one time, but the double "b" was added without any note of why (unknown reason) in 2011-03-25, and no one caught it

Thank you, Douglas and Mark. Fixed now.

Now we have two chubb/chub lake occurrences? http://www.mindat.org/loc-10085.html and http://www.mindat.org/loc-213395.html

Thanks, Reiner. (Semi-)fixed. St Lawrence county in general is a huge mess - some mines ascribed to the nearest hamlet, some hamlets ascribed to larger towns, some not... A lot of work needed to clean it all up. I'll leave it to someone who knows that area better than I do.
