Check the hardness: goldcan easily be scratched with a knife , pyrite not.

Gold is malleable pyrite is not and will crush into tiny angular fragments. Gold would be hammered out flat and as was said if you scratch tested a flat surface of gold, a pin would leave a groove not a scratch with powdered fragments.

Looks to be an iron sulphide: pyrite, marcasite, or even a mixture of the 2 minerals. Hope this helps.
