Brown/Green Smooth Shiny - Help? February 27, 2012 05:36PM |
I just purchased this necklace from an estate sale for $1.50. I'm pretty excited about it. But after doing some research, I can't find out what the stone is. I thought maybe petrified wood, but it doesn't have rings, and it does have the green. Anyone have an idea? I'd sure be grateful. :) I wish I could provide more information about it, but I'm really pretty clueless. If you need any more info, let me know.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Most times, it is not possible to positively ID a stone from a photo. In the case of your photos, I think that this is doubly true. Do a little local research an find your nearest mineral/gem club and show the stone to them? Or a museum that has a mineralology section?

FYI - Jasper is a variety of chalcedony which is a variety of quartz. The piece you have shows typical jasper colours, possibly bloodstone. It could also just be quartz/agate as well. This is a very common type of tumbled stone. Please note that there are many types of jasper and some that are called jasper are not true jaspers, just to make it confusing.
Hope this helps.

The stone in your picture is substantially out of focus, and the lighting is I fear giving the stone a false color. It also appears to be somewhat transparent. Could you take a picture of it in regular sunlight against a piece of white paper? Make sure the image is in focus.
