Hi Minerals Miner,
I agree with Peter, looks like Magnetite in a chloritic schist. Check with a magnet as Peter suggested. It could occur like this in a few places but it looks very much like Chester, Vermont material. Compare to this image below.

Keith, you give me an opportunity to reiterate Mindat's policy on this issue, which is to encourage people to use their real names, and thankfully the majority of participants here do. (It should be obvious to anyone cruising around the internet that the level of politeness and quality of discourse is far higher on sites where most people are using real names, and that verbal abuse and general trash proliferate on sites that encourage anonymity.) On the Message Board we do not absolutely insist on real names although we do warn users that their questions and comments are likely to be treated less seriously when posted anonymously, and anonymous posts are more likely to be deleted by site administrators if they infringe on grey areas.
But that only applies to the Message Board. Outside the Message Board, those who wish to upload photos or locality information to the database are obligated to provide real names, and they will be blocked from uploading when we find out they are using a false name. The "Minerals Miner" whose post you refer to above is blocked from uploading pix to the database.
Cheers,
Alfredo

Magnetite octahedron in Chloritic schist come from too many localities, most with no distinction worthy to hazard a guess. More common worldwide sources are actually the brazilian locales, that is unless the collector you got it from or said dealers are near one of many more local sources. i.e., who knows?
