Identity HelpPlease ID - Asbestos? Green

8th Apr 2012 11:10 UTCClaire Brimson

Hei

I found this in Kemi, Finland. It is soft and appears fibrous - when I took some off using my knife, it had fibers coming off at the ends and in the middle. It is a very nice green colour, the bigger rock has a couple of other lines of the same stuff which is also green and fibrous! I tried a streak test but it didnt work, so tried on the bigger bit of rock which was very very dark green almost black.

Please advise.

Many thanks

Claire

This looks like a serpentinite, with veins of fibrous chrysotile in massive antogorite.

heh, that looks a lot like the piece Mr. Gylenhammer and a couple other people helped me with the other day, from Twain Harte, California! Thanks again, by the way. Looks like there is a lot of this material out there.

Also looks a lot like the serpentinite from the Baie Verte Peninsula on Newfoundland, Canada as well.
