Hello all,

I bought a specimen of Crossite at the Minerant mineral fair in Antwerp yesterday.

The location on the label is: Voglau, Lammertal, Salzburg, Austria.

I can't find this locality on Mindat, any ideas?

Thanks,

Vik

Voglau is a small settlement NNE of Abtenau (Mindat chose the latter as a reference point for Seydegg since it is a larger settlement).
For Austrian locality names on geographic maps, check [www.austrianmap.at].

Hi Vik,

crossite is discredited.
P-XRD and RFA analyses from my crossite from Einberg, Seydegg agree with ferroglaucophane but possibly more K than Na.

Greetings
Milo

Not sure what a RFA analysis is but if K>Na it may be a new species. Do you have the full analysis?

Ralph

Ralph: RFA is German for XRF.

Sorry I thought RFA could be Röntgen fluorescence analysis.
The XRF is doubtful, I didn't have enough substance for their system.
Also the sample contained some illite or muscovite as shown in the P-XRD.
Further analysis are desirable.

"Sorry I thought RFA could be Röntgen fluorescence analysis.

RFA = Röntgenfluoreszenzanalyse.
The English term is "X-ray fluorescence analysis" = XRF.

"X-rays" = Röntgenstrahlung, BUT Röntgeneffekt is still "Roentgen effect".

Hello all,

I'm reviving this thread, because apparently there is a locality called Voglau on Mindat now ( [www.mindat.org] )
(Voglau was not on Mindat yet when I started this thread in May 2012)

My specimen looks much more like Domenico Preite's specimen from here than the previously suggested locality Seydegg
( [www.mindat.org] )

Are these two localities duplicates or not?

Vik

You can add a photo to Voglau.
(Both are relatively close to each other; there are further localities with similar mineralisation in this area.)
