I am Looking to Identify this rock. I found it near Lassen National Forest. I think it has Quartz Crystal , Lava and Lime stone, I don't know what the yellow is. I have other rocks from this area that look like they are some kind of lime stone but not sure. Please Help.

Do you have a few drops of muriatic acid to test it with?
It looks like it may be a calcite, like flowstone.

Where exactly did you find it? That is a rather large area.
It sort of looks like travertine to me.

But, it also looks like it could be part of what is called a contact aureole, where a magma chamber comes in contact with "country rock" and metamorphoses it.

How do you test it? What is supposed to happen? I found this in the feather river canyon. I know that there was Lava flow years ago so it may be that it was just morphed rock.

To test if it is calcite, put a few drops of either the muriatic acid suggested by Wayne, or vinegar. If it is calcite, it will fizz.

I grew up in Greenville. Is there any chance you got the rock from a place they call "Dog Rock" off of highway 89 near Indian Falls? I'm very interested in where you got the rock now, considering I grew up right there!

I know Highway 89 is not technically in the Feather River Canyon, but this particular area of which I speak is only about three to four miles away from the canyon.

Please be sure to wear safety glasses and rubber gloves if you are going to use muriatic acid.

I don't know where Indian Falls Is located or the other place "Dog Rock". We took a road off of Highway 70 that went back into the mountains and ended at a river. I believe it was near Paxton. Found some interesting areas and couldn't believe my eyes. Here are a few more rocks. I will post again with more pitches. I think this is to soft to be travertine but it does resemble it.

Wayne and Kelly nailed it, those last few pics clearly show dripstone/flowstone aka travertine.

The surface looks like flowstone to me, it could be either aragonite or calcite, but the rest of the rock looks like it is some king of metamorphic rock!
