Below is a picture of an almandine garnet crystal I think, but even that Im not sure about. Anyone recognize where it might be from. The matrix is a fine grained mica schist.

The scale under the specimen is an inch with a rule at one cm.

Hi,

crystal and matrix looks very similar to specimens from Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China. Look: http://www.mindat.org/photo-379766.html

Regards,

Grzesiek

Rock, the schist looks much like that at Greene's Farm in Southbury, Connecticut; but the garnet appears to have more complex modification on the dodecahedral edges than I have seen from there.

One of those that may be impossible to pin down but I've had exactly the same specimens from the Chinese locality that Grzesiek mentions.

Donald

The garnet looks too glassy to be from Green's farm to me.

Sorry Rock, i'm not sure where it came from,,, but it's a nice one.

Wayne, I tend to agree with you . . .and also the edge modification seems a bit too complex. However, the schist is quite similar.

Yes, I think this one will be difficult to put a locality on unless someone has seen or collected identical material from the locality.
