any idea what it is half is magnetic .Black side has black and clear diamond like crystals silver side is magnetic?

Its specific gravity is 1.5 and its has unusual black crystals on it as well as clear

The density of glass is around 2.5 g/cm3. And slag is a kind of glass, so your measured density is a bit low unless your specimen is full of air bubbles. I am reasonably sure that the piece is slag, so either it is full of air bubbles (in which case it will feel light as compared to a same sized rock), or you have a mistake in your measured density. How did you determine it?

I used the thinnest thread I could hold , tied it around the specimen ,,1st I weighed spec by itself it weighed 3 grams ,, then I took a shot glass full of water weighed it,recorder that weight. Then I carefully submerged the spec in glass ,careful not too touch sides or bottom but completely submerge it ..I then recorfed that weighted subtracted the 2 weights then divided by spec weight in air

Almost, but not quite. You have the wt. of the specimen in air and you have the wt of the specimen suspended in water (but not touching the sides or bottom of the glass). Subtact the 2nd from the first. This gives you the wt of the water displaced, which is equal numerically to the volume of the specimen.


Density is the mass or wt of an object divided by its volume. Therefore, divide the weight in air by the weight of the water displaced.

The specific gravity is 3.110 , I was doing it wrong I watched a video after I read your post..The specific gravity comes up 3.111 or 3.110 when I checked it again..I don't know what it is a cachbon or something I read idk ? Its really cool looking and slag I knew it wasn't cuz I have a friend that welds and he said it definetly wasn't slag and I thought same cuz it has black crystal like diamonds and a clear one as well...u
