Chromite specimens required

Chromite specimens required

Hi

I would like to get hold of some chromite specimens from a variety of localities. The pieces would need to be 300 gram plus up to a couple of kilos max and be either pure or very rich(and dense).
They would have to be from known localities and have all natural surfaces and not be friable i.e can be handled without bits breaking off.

Does anyone know of any dealers or individuals who might have such things for sale or exchange?

Thanks very much for your help

Best regards

Mark Redmond

Lots of material available from the south african platinum fields. Contact Rob Smith in Johannesburg:
gems@africangems.com

What are you planning to do with the material?

Hi Ruth

I have a collection of ore minerals and have decided to collect chromite for a while. I want to get a wide variety of localities. I already have quite a few so I am looking for new ones.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Mark

I'm Matt, an Italian collector. I read your message, and you reply that they are in possession of various samples of chromite, the samples come from the Valmalenco, Campo Fransciaquarries. In part they were extracted directly while the rest were scattered in the debris. I am willing to give it to you. If you are interested please contact me.

Greetings

Mattia

Hello Matt

If you have some pieces as big and rich as I mentioned in my original message I would be very pleased to have some from the locality in Campo Franscia. If you have paypal I could send you something to pay for the postage.

Maybe you would like to exchange specimens. I might have something you would like.

By the way your English is much better than my Italian.

Best wishes

Mark

Hello Mark,
I wanted to know the basis on which you are interested in the chromite mineralization (laboratory testing, collecting, study)?
The samples consist of chromite (microgranular) associated with purple cromian clinochlore in serpentinite matrix. They appear as pockets within the serpentinite. I could send you pictures of the samples.
Unfortunately I do not have Paypal, but in one way or another, you can arrange.
As regards trade, I'm sorry but my collection is exclusively Italian and Alpine.

See you soon Matt

PS: Want nodules Demantoids, free of charge?

Hi Matt

I want the chromite because I collect ore minerals. All my collection is heavy ore specimens. Some crystallised and some with secondary minerals but all metalic ores. Thank you for the offer of demantoid but that is not one of the minerals I am interested in.
Do you have a specimen of very rich / nearly pure chromite of say 500 to 1000 grams available which has all natural surfaces and is not friable?
It would be nice to see the pictures of the pieces you have if you think they meet the above criteria.

Thanks for your help

Regards

Mark

Just a rookie!
I found your topic while searching information about chromite. I visited with my son Outokumpu ( [www.mindat.org]) last summer. I have several specimens (what i think) of massive uvarovite in diopside matrix. This picture is detail of a very small one (dia about 6mm).
I don't see anymore very well, but on spot i became curios about these black crystals. Are they perhaps chromite? I case you are interested, I can send you more photos.

Hi

The one at the top looks like it might be( with the triangular face). Chromite is of course often associated with uvarovite but what is the white material. If that is quartz that would ve an unusual combination !

Hello Mark,

I took some pictures of samples available. Massive chromite are associated with asbestos or the wall rock. The photos are not much, but illustrate the type of material. I can not tell the weight, unfortunately, tend to be longer than 10 cm. If you are good to go any information about a shipment at your expense.

See you soon

Mattia

Don't forget that much so-called chromite is really magnesiochromite. Magnesiochromite may actually be more common than chromite, itself.

Hello Mattia

Thank you for taking the pictues for me. If you can spare a sample or two which has got a high percentage of chromite and is dense that would be great. If you can let me know how much the postage would be I will have a think how I can get some Euros to you.

Thanks again and best wishes

Thanks

Hello Matt,
samples of chromite in the picture are all, unless they are cleaned, except for the number 5273, that has already washed.
