Soledad Canyon iron mineral

Hey all, so some of us in the local rock club went to Soledad Canyon this past weekend and found what we believe is Limanite,which has a Fe. and is attracted to a magnet.Does anyone know for sure what we are looking at? the area is know for it....

Perhaps you have "Limonite"? I suspect a misspelling here.

Magnetite/ilmenite isn't uncommon as pods in anothosite (the gray-white granite-like rock) from that area, also as rounded pieces in the stream and riverbeds.

I've collected those magnetite pods, weathered from the host rock, in that area. They are metallic but typically dull gray to black. Magnetic attraction varied from strong to weak to none.
