Today lodestone is taken to mean Magnetite which is black. However some years ago I was reading Gilbert's De Magnete published in 1600 and he called many things, that are not magnetite, Lodestone. If your green stuff responds to a magnet there is probably some magnetite in it. Recently weird looking Epidotes, dark green, had not too obvious magnetites with them and they of course responded to magnets.

I use to sell some green jade/serpentine that has enough iron in it to hold a 15pound REE magnet to it.

I also have a slab of Galactic Jade which is green and has magnetite crystals in it that will hold a magnet.

My guess is the original rock, which had some magnetite in it, may have got "epidotised" or chloritised slightly to produce the green colour.
