Today lodestone is taken to mean Magnetite which is black. However some years ago I was reading Gilbert's De Magnete published in 1600 and he called many things, that are not magnetite, Lodestone. If your green stuff responds to a magnet there is probably some magnetite in it. Recently weird looking Epidotes, dark green, had not too obvious magnetites with them and they of course responded to magnets.
