Samuel,
You said:
Just look on mindat for Samuel Fairfield and you will see some of my collection.

I have been looking and can find no pictures in our gallery that you have uploaded. In your image gallery on your home page there are no images. Searching the captions in our general gallery I find none with your name. I would be interested to see the kinds of specimens you collect. Just where on mindat should we search and how?

Why don't you bring it to Tucson?

Wow Sam!
You're getting some brilliant deals! That new arsenopyrite for only $3 to $30?

By the way, I found your sordid insinuation about Henry (post July 04, 2011 06:58AM) totally disgusting. Please see a therapist.

Hi Phil
I mined it several years ago, and sold it at Tucson. The current area I am mining should produce similar. That piece has xls about 5cm long, all terminated, not single broken one. Also starting to get a few cerussites.

cheers

Shane

You should now be able to continue discussing Australian minerals without rude interruption.

Here's one from my cabinet, and looking at the pics from same area, there are a lot of nice topp end samples, a lot better than mine, but I'm happy with this one;

What a relief! Thank you Jolyon!

From the type locality, Skipton Caves, Victoria, Australia - a thumbnail - is it the best of? far from it, but Newberyite makes for one of the best stories as regards the "matrix" material - not unlike the material the latest tempest was flinging our way.

Unless i'm mistaken, cattle down frequent caves very often.

Australia has produced most of the same minerals as are coming from China, often in similar quality, but cannot produce them in quantity. Most minerals being produced in quantity around the world are produced either by subsistence miners, or by serious collector-miners or small companies focused on specimen minerals. In Australia, most of these cannot compete with mining companies on any sizable mineral deposits, and sadly we don't have any legislation to help protect our mineral heritage. The crocoite producers spend a lot of time making little or no money, with the odd big find keeping them going. But if a big company decided to open pit Dundas for the lead, the crocoite would all be destroyed in days, and there is little we could do. Perhaps we should import some Chinese miners?

Ralph

A small example of things trickling out of Australia at present - a barytocalcite on witherite, about 100mm long, from the Rosebery mine, probably up with the worlds best, but instant dismissal if you are caught collecting them. http://www.mindat.org/photo-347489.html

Wow! You don't look at a thread for a few days and all hell breaks loose. I see posts have been removed but I got the gist from the ones still here.

Some nice minerals pictured all.

Steph - only one D in Gads Hill...

I am glad to see this thread picking up again. I have not had time to post lately either but decided I should dig around to see what to post. This is one of my favorites. I don't often see the opalized clams on matrix which is why I like this one. The dimensions are 13cm x 8.5cm

Thanks Shane for setting me straight on the crocoite from Adelaide Mine. I had picked up a couple of specimens that year and must have gotten the labels mixed. It it one of my most favorite crocoites.
