Greg it's great to see that your still around, i was starting to wonder if you had left the planet?
That Quartz crystal looks huge in comparison to the telegraph pole in the back ground..lol

This scepter Amethyst is one that i got from Patrick last month, from the Hartz Range, NT.

Here's a specimen I picked up in the late 1970's I'm fond of. Pyromorphite And Cerussite On Malachite Rum Jungle Northern Territory Australia. specimen measures 9 x 6 x 4 cm.

I've found some time to work on the collection catalog. Finally finished the "silver" department and it would seem that the best was saved for last.

This is a 3.9 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm silver beauty from the Elura Mine, in NSW. I am so smitten with this piece that I want to show all sides at once - but there are larger views here - [www.mindat.org]

There's been a few amethysts on Gail's new thread so I thought I'd throw one in here too...

This specimen fits in this topic as well as in the pseudo one. So I am going to post it in both!

This is an unusual specimen in that you can see how the stichtite is being formed. It is replacing chromite in the serpentine.

Great specimen there Steve! Kind of looks like mould taking over a slice of something but in an attractive way if that makes sense. Some really nice specimens in this thread, very enjoyable viewing.

I don't see that Ralph. My screen shows Kuridala.

Steve, This link: [www.mindat.org], like the second picture in your last post, shows amethyst labelled as Stichtite, unless my iPad got it scrambled?

Ralph

Scrambled iPad it must be Ralph! I see the right information using my home PC or my Melbourne PC. It's also ok on my iPhone.

Steve, Ralph,

You too are so funny, :) - you live a couple of wallaby jumps apart (OK OK they are very fit wallaby's) and yet you communicate via a website half a world away. No wonder my father just shakes his head at what we now do.

Anyway, great to see you both at Zeehan, fun show.

Hi Andrew, we actually caught up in person last night too. Had a fun quiz night and auction at the Min Soc. I came away with a great pentagonite (will add photo shortly, though sadly its not Australian).

Regards,
Ralph

Here's one of the unusual Harts Range crystals that I turned up in 2009, a double terminated "reverse scepter" growth Amethyst crystal. Specimen measures 40mm x40mm.

I recently bought this nice baryte (~50mm) , labelled as "Oraparinna, Sth Australia". I hope its right, but have not seen any others like it though - has anyone else?
Ditto a nice malachite from Mutooroo, Sth Aust. (Xl about 6mm) - biggest I have seen from there.

Regards,
Ralph

Howdy Ralph,

Nice Mutooroo piece, they do get a little bigger, but I haven't see too many that size, I would suspect it is a fairly old piece.

As for the Baryte, I have never seen anything like it from anywhere in South Australia, the closest piece to that I've seen from S.A. would be a Burra piece the late Bill Arid had, but still think it would be not close enough?

Unless anyone else can help out, I think you might have an unknown one!

Cheers Mark.

We will never have all the answers, only more questions!

Stellerite, Gunnedah, NSW on rock matrix. 8x11 cm.

My contribution to Australia. I hope the mindat friends down under can forgive me the "creative" background.
I still play around with backgrounds and light.

Ralph,

The Oraparinna barytes mine is real (there are several photos in Mindat) and i have a cabinet size example although bit more blocky than your specimen. Also called Linke's Lode at the Oraparinna mine. I'll add a photo when i get a chance. Location is 15 km NE of the Oraparinna Homestead, Bunkers Ranges, South Flinder Ranges.
