Awesome Aussie specimens!
I went looking for my rhodonite which I did not find,
but I found a few to post that I hope you don't mind...
oops that should be on the other thread... (:P)
Gold in Quartz
The label indicates Maxwell Mine, Inglewood, Victoria, but I only see a Maxwell Consolidated locality in the data base, so perhaps someone can confirm if that is the same.
Quartz length 15mm
Darwin Glass - Impact Glass - does that count? lol
Queenstown District, Tasmania
In this case the label is definitely wrong as it indicates Darwin N.T.
Approx 3cm x 1.8cm
and of course, a typical Malbunka azurite
Azurite on Kaolinite, Malbunka Copper Mine, Northern Territory
Approx 5.5cm x 4cm

Ammonite from Western Australia, gypsum from Western Austalia. The ammonite is about 15cm and gypsum about 30cm. Jaspillite from Western Australia. Pretty average compared to above, but I had fun collecting them.

I also have been away from the web for a couple of days, (enjoying the ministrations of a nice southern Australian medical facility), and have missed the very obvious escalation of the silliness that was occurring, thankfully it has finished.
Jolyon, I thank you for your intervention and the rest of you kind folks, for the support of our interesting aussie rocks, ....i guess i can now think about posting some more "average" aussie rocks soon.

My congratulations to the Australian collectors for the privilege of living in such a nice country with so many outstanding minerals! (I live in Brazil, a country with outstanding minerals too!).
Thank you for posting all those great photos; Trevor, thank you for having started this thread!

Hi Stephanie
Try [www.infomine.com] for your gold specimen.
The Darwin Glass is an impact glass rather than a tektite.
And you did a good job with Mooralla!
Regards
Steve

Stephanie, I think your specimen is indeed from Inglewood, Bendigo Gold (the company) own leases out there and it is not a huge distance from the town/city of Bendigo but it is very much a separate location. The bush around Inglewood is riddled with mines and alluvial diggings, this government publication may be of interest to you [www.dpcd.vic.gov.au]

Those are superb, Bob!
Toby - thanks for the info. So if they are indeed separate, then there should be a new locality added as this one does not appear in the database?
Perhaps you can also help me with this piece labelled as Native Silver,
from the Elura Mine (Endeavor Mine), Booroondarra, Cobar, Robinson Co., New South Wales
1.0cm
It doesn't appear much like the silvers shown in the gallery from this location, but it does have a heavy iridescent tarnish.
I didn't think I really had that many Australian minerals in my collection as I never really counted, but it appears I had more than I thought!
Here's a couple more for fun.
Gypsum var selenite
Pernatty Lagoon Mt Gunson, South Australia
Approx 8cm x 5cm
now this is just a baby really...
Dravite with mica
Yinnietharra Station, Pilbara Region, Western Australia
3cm x 3cm x 2.2cm deep

As per usual, AM your specimens are captured in exquisite wonder. The Hyalite is mesmerizing.
Stephanie, your Elura Mine silver is a stunner, you are very privileged to have this specimen, most silvers were more of the wire habit, often being amazing masses of thousands (or many many more) of small interwoven individual wire silver crystals. Yours is a little unusual with the sharp sprays of crystals with a lovely tarnish. very cool.

Hi all,
Very nice stuff everyone. The only specimen I have from down under is an opal so I am very surprise by the beauty of the specimens shown.
Andrew, that's a very fine manfern specimen. Have to look for one like that.;) Would fit perfectly in my petrified wood suite.
Take care and best regards.
Paul.
