With a nod to the Red Rose Tea commercials from years ago (Only in Canada, eh? Pity!) and other similar threads like the Down Under and zeolites and pseudos, I thought I'd start a Canadian version.
I am curious to see what others might have by way of Canadian minerals in their collection. Care to join in?
To get things started, here's a quartz thumbnail from Nova Scotia.
Locality: Guysborough Co., Nova Scotia, Canada
2.7 x 1.2 x 1.0 cm
I look forward to your posts!
Maggie

Great idea Maggie!
Here is my contribution from the Niobec Mine in St.-Honore, Quebec
Two intersecting complete baryte crystals with clear and yellowish fluorite crystals at the contact area and a dusting of pyrite micro-crystals on each termination point.
The smaller xl in the foreground of the first photo is 4.5cm x 4cm x 1.5 cm and displays parallel growth, has two beveled edges and is doubly terminated.
The larger tabular crystal is 6cm x 3cm x .75cm and has double chisel termination and well formed beveled edges.
The space on one edge is not a chip but formed by a missing crystal.

Awesome idea, Maggie!!
My first of many contributions is this silver from the Manridge Mine in the Tamiskaming District, Ontario. The specimen measures about 7 cm across.

If I were to show one mineral specimen from Canada, what would it be? Tough decision. But I have always been partial to rock-forming minerals. So, can you guess where this labradorite is from? I'll bet labradorite (variety of anorthite) forms several percent of the Earth's crust. This is two views of the same specimen, taken in natural light. The specimen is 8.4 cm in length.

Oh Canada! Fond memories of wonderful collecting, camping and the most thoroughly pleasant people in the world! I offer a very modest, though attractive analcime on serandite from the Demix quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec. Measures 4.5 cm tall. Great topic!

I have so manymany favs from Canada, but I do love galenas, and here is a little floater crystal [rare at this mine] of Galena from the long defunct, but famous, Beaverdell Silver mine, in British Columbia. If I remember correctly, it is about 10 mm across, but don't quote me on that...LOL
