Here is an apatite from the Gillette Quarry in Haddam, which I collected on the dumps on September 25, 1983, during a field trip sponsored by the Stamford Mineralogical Society. It measures 9 mm x 7 mm.

Another micro. This one is of fluorite and pyrite from the construction site at the intersection of "new" Route 111 and "new" Route 25 in Trumbull, collected in 1979. The fluorite measures 2 mm on each side. The white, bladed mineral is calcite.

I'm very proud of this Kyanite that I recovered at a construction site in Thomaston.

Nice David! Adam, when did you find that quartz? I am going to check that spot out soon. I've heard good stuff about the amethyst!

Is the Route 11 roadcut in Salem still available for collecting? Here is a plate of amethystine quartz which I collected there in May of 1976. Measures 11.5 cm x 7.0 cm. The quartz crystals were found in vein openings in the bedrock.

Great kyanites, Donald. Here are two from Judd's Bridge which I collected on June 15, 1975. First one measures 5.5 cm x 3.5 cm. Second one measures 5.7 cm x 2.0 cm.

I must say this has been an interesting thread, well done everyone!

I've had these few drill cores from the Upper Merryall pegmatite quarry since I picked them up as a kid back in the very early 1960's. These live in the rock pile out back that gets infrequent visits, I am really not sure why I held onto them all these years.

Jay, you should keep them simply because of where they are from! You are lucky to have been there!

David:

I was only about 7 years old when I visited Bristol; didn't even have a camera then, sorry! But I didn't witness any water damage; I think the headframe may have come down prior to my visit.
