Continuing Gail's excellent thread.
Here were her rules, which I totally agree with:
"Hey everyone, on this thread let's stick to favorites that you have in your collection, or that you have seen in a Museum. NOT what you have for sale! The original concept of my Favourites thread is to chat about, and show, a piece that you really enjoy on that particular day. Limit ONE posting per day! It started for me when I was walking past a case in our home, stopped, turned on the lights and admired a piece in our collection that really gave me a thrill. Thus the name, Favourite of the Day. Don't worry about sizes unless you wish to add them, many new people aren't overly familiar with sizing their minerals and this is a FUN thread, sorry to the moderators who will cringe at that. This thread is about showing the mineral that THRILLS you today! "

This specimen with silver and erythrite from Nippissing 404 Mine in Cobalt, arrived in the post today. From Maggie Wilson and Reiner Mielke - I would have kissed you both, or at least a very good hug ;) when I opened it, and could look at this 3,5 x 3,2cm treassure. This will be a favourite for many, many, many days, months and years!!! X(
Photo is by Maggie, I couldn't have done it better :)

Fabulous silver, Peter – I’m a copper guy myself, but would love something like that on my shelf! Michael, my first thought at seeing your calcite was somewhere in Indiana, as Midwestern US calcites are another favorite of mine.
Back in August I organized a group display case for the SF Crystal Gazers at the San Francisco Gem & Mineral Society’s annual show. The theme was “A Sea of Gems” and we went with the approach of a mineralogical coral reef.
With the 11/11/11 date, the entertainment section of this morning’s newspaper made reference to “Ocean’s 11” among other numerologic silliness, which reminded me of the case.
Not a single mineral, admittedly, but it’s one of my favorite pics. Cheers!

Peter that is seriously nice Silver...just a stunning combination.
Getting over some recent negativity I though I better do what this thread is for and post a few special bits share so others can enjoy. So here is the first.
And I agree with Peter that some minerals are just favorites for more than one day. The following specimen is one of these for me...(and it is not mine), self collected by my son Luke at Mt Bischoff a couple of years ago. Amazing 8mm +/- ball of vivianite on fluorite, and yes this is the right colour.
Now how to get it into my collection...;)
Enjoy
Andrew

This arrived today, we had bought it and then saw Jolyon had put it in his Munich show report. Jim is ecstatic, it's a fine adventure under the microscope I can tell you!
Here is our new Genthelvite with Quartz on Andradite. China
Jolyon took the photo, I borrowed it with his permission.

I really really want to know where Maggie and Reiner got that piece...was it a purchase from an old collection?...by self collection? and if so , How long ago? And if they collected it , do you have another similar piece I might be able to obtain?
It is "the piece" I have been looking for from Cobalt ever since I got my first group of Cobalt silvers....and they are the nicest erythrites that I have ever seen from there, and to have that all combined
so beautifully, with such a killer Silver wire group....OOOOh , I so want that in my collection....
but I digress....my fav for today, resides in my Mount Brussilof collection and is the nicest
and gemmiest [ and it is a DT] natrolite xl that I have ever seen out of Mount Brussilof. [ with dimensions of 5.45 x 3.49 cm]..so please enjoy

Here is what I want to share today! This year is a nice year for Morocco, and some nice erythrite went out from two mines, including this one, from Bou Azzer, It has the style of the finds of the 50's: large crystals, quite tick, with very sharp terminaisons.
So many crystals, up to 2 cm long, on a 12 cm speciment. A little souvenir from Munich. Even during my 3 trips to Bou Azzer, I never saw an erythrite looking like this!
Have a great day to all
Valère

My favorite of the day is this grouping of minerals in our U.K. case. I found myself standing there this morning, just loving all these minerals.
The Witherite, in particular, catches my attention.

Awesome photos everyone!
Peter!
I do not know how Reiner and Maggie were able to let that one go, but I'm sure that what made it easier is knowing that you will take good care of it. That is a truly exceptional, galaxy class specimen ~ berry extraordinary !!!
There are currently many Best Of threads running and while they are inspiring it is difficult to keep up with them all (:D
And now for a wee bit of fun.
I get a giggle out of these and in this case I think 3 are more fun than just one.
Sand Calcite concretions
Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Co., Hungary (near Malyi)
longest one rear right - approx 6.0cm x 3.5cm
